What does a working vacation look like for writers?
I have two types of working vacations.  The first is the travel vacation. this is easy.  Write what is going on.  Write up colorful scenes and moments.  Write bitchy moments, complain or rave about the food, the driving, TSA, whatever you like.  This kind of writing is truly wonderful and freeing.   The second kind of working vacation is a bit more difficult.  This is embracing the idea of freedom of searching around and finding new ways to think and consider things.
This writing occurs in the quiet spaces of travel – the long bus ride.  Waiting for the plane connection.  If you are lucky – during a long walk on an exotic beach (I myself seem to always encounter pesky black flies during my long walks on exotic beaches – ruins the effect).
What comes to mind when the buzz of every day life has quieted?  What comes to mind when you don’t have to respond to the same volume of activity and emails?
Do you read different literature while on vacation?  Do you eat different foods? How is that inspiring?
Removing ourselves from the every day is a opportunity to consider what you want to do rather than must do.  The work I do on vacation is often some of my best.
