I’m in the KDP Select program, and it did boost the sales of my books using the free promotional days. However, with the ocean of free books, the boost in sales was short lived. While I continue to sell more books than I did before using KDP Select, I’m not sure I will continue with the program. I think that it is important to note Amazon’s decrease in the share of the ebook market and the growing power of it’s competitors. Amazon is swamped with new self published books daily, so it is almost impossible to get noticed. It might be better to try to work with Amazon’s competitors where the ocean of books is a little smaller. More markets could mean more opportunities.

The KDP Select program can be a great way for an author to find new readers if they market their book right and you have other books to point readers to buying. It’s not as good of deal for authors who only have one book. I recently gave away a small book of mine on KDP Select and saw a real boost in sales on my other book.

I’ve also found many of my favorite authors because I got one of their books for free. I wouldn’t have found them any other way.

Something to note: you don’t need to be in the Select program to receive the higher royalties. Anyone selling their kindle book between $2.99 and $9.99 USD will receive the higher royalties. B&N royalties are just a little bit lower than
